How to Choose Diamond Grit and Bond

Grit and bond cannot be selected in isolation. They work together with diamond concentration, tool geometry, material, machine and operating condition.

Diamond Grit

Grit size influences cutting action and surface result.

Coarser diamond is generally considered when aggressive removal and chip space are important. Finer diamond is generally considered when edge quality or surface finish matters. The correct range still depends on material and process.

Bond System

The bond controls how diamond is held and renewed.

Bond behavior affects diamond retention, exposure, wear and heat. Vacuum brazed, electroplated and sintered systems behave differently, while bond formulation within sintered tools can be matched to the workpiece and operating condition.
